Welcome to the Cambridge University Society of Artists!
We are the first society in Cambridge that aims to assemble all members of our historical University to join us in our dedication to the practise of the arts. Whether you are a complete beginner or an experienced artist, come check out our weekly sessions !
"Every Artist Was First An Amateur."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
Anything can be Art. It is the most fundamental way for people to express themselves and there is no limit to the number of ways to choose from. The greatness of Art is that anyone can do it!
We had thus two objective in establishing this society:
1. Life in Cambridge can get extremely busy for everyone, leaving little room for the pursuit of hobbies if not in a society. Whilst we may occasionally find the time for a quick sketch between essays, without a specific platform, it's harder to fit in the time in our schedules for a more substantial project. Hence, our first aim is to give students the appropriate platform, with a specific time, place and available equipment, so they can continue to do what they love.
2. But what about people who aren't already practising?
After all, university is a place to learn and try out new things. Therefore our second objective in establishing the Society of Artists is to give students a chance to try out and learn the basic skills of drawing, painting and other art forms, using different mediums.
Perhaps they may discover that they really enjoy one form or another, or even that they hold a hidden talent.
In any case, you'll never know unless you try!
Our team is committed and working hard to create a friendly and informal environment for our members, a place ideal for experimenting with ideas and expressing yourself.
